Understanding the difference between an opening sequence and a trailer.

Movie trailer:
  • an overview of the story/plot
  • grad our attention
  • action (the good bits)
  • who is starring in the film
  • voice over (details)
  • no give away
  • montage editing (bits and peaces-overview)
  • fast paced editing
  • a lot of shots
  • persuade audience to follow up the film (go and watch it)
Opening sequence:
  • got to hook you in
  • familiarize view setting/establish setting
  • slower paced (leading you into the narrative)
  • introduce characters thought shots of them and titles
  • establish a certain "mood" or "tone"
  • create an atmosphere
  • sound track (music helps to set tone)
  • viewers need to feel curious/engaged and have questions they want answered to view on
