Sound to our thriller opeing sequence.

As a group we will find some good music for the opening sequence to our thriller using a range of different wedsites to help us find the best music to set the right mood to our thriller. For example we used a site called www.freesound.com
This is the link you can use to find the music we used to make our thriller.
This really helped us choose some good music to be used in our opening sequence. This will be a really good idea because the music will be original and different. As a group we will listen to different thriller films so that we can analyze what sort of mood and atmosphere is generated and incorporate that when we find a the right music we will know it is right for our opening sequence.

As there is no dialogue within our opening sequence we will be using a variety of different sound effects to try and convey an eerie and scary mood. Some of these sound effects will vary from heavy breathing, quick paced footsteps and a car boot door slamming. This will also make the viewer feel more into our opening sequence because they will have to focus more because it has no dialogue in it so it will be more intresting top watch. So the audience will want to watch on but then it will be over and it will leave the audience thinking "whats going to happen next?"

Before my group put together some music for our thriller opening sequence I listend to a lot of different music, so I got some good examples in my head of what types of sounds I liked first and then I thought of some music I wanted to be similar to the things I heard. These pictures (at the top) are of some examples of what I like the most, from different films and sound tracks.

In the end we couldn't deside what music we wanted to use so Alisha decided to put her musical skills to the test by putting together a good piece of music together by her self, with the groups small imput to what types of instrument's we want in it. This was more effective to the mood and the completion of our opeing sequence. I also have a few pictures of the one we wanted most to play a big part to our music.

Shot Lists

Shot 1
This will be a mid-shot of the title which will be shown in a black screen to make it more effective. We have chosen a mid-shot because it does not fill up the screen too much and the everyone in the audience will be able to see the title clearly.

Shot 2
This will also be a mid-shot as this is of a picture of Jessica, she does not know that this picture has been taken of her and also the picture of Jessica fades into the background of the title and so a mid-shot would be ideal for this because once again the title does not take up to much of the film and the picture of Jessica in the background would be good as a mid-shot because it is not standing out too much to the audience but it is still there for the audience to see.

Shot 3
This will be a mid-shot of developing the pictures in the dark room and we have chosen to make this a mid-shot because it shows most of the room and does not fill up the screen too much.

Shot 4
This will be a close-up of a hand with a glove on developing the picture, we decided to make this a close-up because it shows something sinister going on here and we also want to see what this person is developing.

Shot 5
This is going to be a panning and establishing shot and we decided this because we wanted to show the objects around the room as the room looks quite sinister. We decided on an establishing shot because this shows most of the room.

Shot 6
This will be many close-ups of difference weapons going along, we decided on this because we wanted the show the weapons in detail and we wanted to show all of the different types of tools that this killer could be using.

Shot 7
This is yet again another close-up and this will be of papers and missing posters, we want to show this using a close-up because we want to show the pictures on these posters and papers and perhaps some of the print.

Shot 8
This is going to be an over the shoulder shot of the killer and this will be in black and white because this is showing memories of the killer and his past killings. We have decided to use an over the shoulder shot because we are showing the killer's next victim.

Shot 9
This will be a medium shot and this will be seeing the killer drug the girl and put her in the boot. We have decided on this type of shot because it shows quite a bit of what is going on and it is not to close and not to far away.

Shot 10
This will be another medium shot of seeing and girl get drugged by the killer and we have chosen this kind of shot because once again it is showing everything.

Shot 11
This will be a wide mid-shot of one of the killer's victims lying on the back seat of the car and we have chosen this because it shows a lot of what is going on and this is what the viewers are going to want to see.

Shot 12
We will be showing the next shot as a moving subject walking into space and this will be of Jessica walking through the forest at night. We chose this particular shot because we wanted to let the audience feel as if they are involved because it feels as if you are walking with Jessica.

Shot 13
This will be a close-up of the killer's feet and we wanted to show this in a close-up because we wanted to show the audience that Jessica is being followed and because we are not going to see killer's face we wanted to show some part of the killer following Jessica.

Shot 14
This will be a side mid-shot of Jessica hearing the killer's footsteps and this is also where she stops and looks around to the killer. We wanted to show this in a mid-shot because we wanted to show most of Jessica's body language when she sees the killer.

Shot 15
This will be a mid-shot of the titles when they appear on this screen.

Initial Ideas

These were some of the ideas that got took down when we were working in our groups.

Storyboard

This is a storyboard of our film, some of the pictures are not finished as it was difficult to know what to draw on the storyboard. What is written on the storyboard is quite detailed, detailed enough for our group to know exactly what we are doing in our film and who has what role.

Props, Costume, Location & Script

We used this tri-pod in our film so we had a steady camera when we was filming. This really helped us thought out our filming period. This will also show that I have leant to use a tri-pod when filming and the use of this makes the whole opeing sequence much better to view.
This is the video camera we used when we filmed our thriller opening sequence. Everyone in the group had a go at filming a part of our opening sequence. This also show that I can now work a video camera now.
We used this prop in our film to help the killer to draw a detailed picture of Donna. This made the view think more about this few second shout in our film and I think it had a good impact on the audience opinion on our film.
We used this prop to cut out pictures of Donna and to cut peaces of string and other materials to put into our film and for them to play a big part of the killers personality.
This prop was used to stick peaces of the pictures of Donna together. This helped the film to flow better and we was able to see what the picture looked like in the first place.
We used this prop to hold some important parts of our prop pictures together so we didn't lose any and by us using this we had all the bits we needed to make our film flow though out the 3 minutes of it.
This prop was used to stick part of the picture together and for the string to be held on the photo but with out the audience knowing it wasn't really stuck. This help the group to make the film to our best ability.
We used these props to mark Donnas house on the map so the audience could see that the killers planed her capture well and that he knew it was going to be successful. This prop is very small but in our opeing sequence this small pin played a very big part and that was to stand out when it was on the screen and for the audience to know what it was as soon as they saw it.

In today’s lesson we decided to plan what props we are going to use, what costume Donna and the killer is going to wear and why (what the costume represents and how it reflects the character’s personality) as well as planning our location, script, shooting schedule and character description for our opening description. These photos above are some of the props we used to help us put our film together.

Props & Costumes

Props

Knives – We are using this prop to represent one of the pieces of weaponry that the killer is planning on using

Photographs – We will be using many photographs to show how many people the killer has killed.

Costumes

Donna (Jessica) – Will be wearing light colors to represent her innocence.

Shehabur – Will be wearing black to represent an evil and sinister demeanor.

Location

Morden Park – We will be using this location when someone driving his or her car sees the victim and when she is running away from her potential killer.

PDH/DH3 – This location will be used when the killer is laying out and planning what weaponry to use to carry out the killing of the protagonist. We will use this because it will be a good effect for our use of light and the uses of darkness and shadows.

Script

Although there is going to be no dialogue in our opening sequence we felt it was necessary to devise a script to show what sound effects and music we will be using.

Sound of cutting with a knife and the killer drawing a picture of the main character in our film. This will be use in our film to make it more real and gripping to watch.

Devised Piece of Music – We will be using a personally created piece of music so that it is original and has not been used before in previous thriller films. This will make our film more special and our own peace of music. This will also show our had work and effort we put into it.

Casting to our film

This is Shehabur, he is the killer in our film as you can see hes all in black, this is to show the audience he does't want to be seen by the audience and to look as if he is a shadow. He's character appeals to our target audience because he's sly and misterious. This type of character would make anyone from our target audience feel scared. He will also intrest our taget audience because he is young, strong and he's personality is show to the audience that he is not a nice person and he will play and intresting role to the thriller.
This is Donna, she is our timid victum, that is being watch by the killer. She appeals to intrest the audience because she looks shy and smart. This is the type of character our target audience will want the killer to get because she is the same as some of the viwers watching and the auidence members that are women, will feel for the girl and want to see her servive and get away for this horrible man. So she is a key character to the mood of our target audience because they will want to see what happens to her in the rest of the film.
This is Alisha, She will not be a charter in our opening sequence, but she will play a very big part behind the scene of it. She will help film and edit our opeing sequence. She will have to do her best to make sure the filming is perfect, she will do this by using the tri-pod.
This is me (Sophie) I will also not be taking part in the film but I will be a key person to making sure that all the filming is done on time, that the characters have the right props and that they are standing in the perfect postition when we film each shot to the final 3 minutes to our opening sequence. I will also be helping with the making of the titles for the opeing sequence and some of the editing. This will be very challenging for me because I haven't done this before so I will put a lot of effort into it and I will also learn somethink new to do with the Mac PC.

Casting: As a group we wanted our film to be creative, different and to make the audience want to see more. We chose Donna as the main character because she would play a good part of the character Jessica who is the girl being watched by the killer in our film. We used the character of Jessica because we have seen in the news the amount of disappearances that have happened lately, so we thought it would be appropriate and realist in everyday life. In this type of drama there is also a killer/bad man, so we wanted our film to show what he/she goes thought to get ready for the kidnapping and what they use. As a group we thought this would be effective and a good way to open our film.

So from the two characters we chose to take part in our film they will make the opening sequence very real and so our target audience will relate to this type of thriller and it will keep them edged to their seat so they want to see more and to see what really happens to Jessica. The audience will also see that the killers is a very twisted man and this will also set a good mood to the film.

Shooting Schedule

Shooting Schedule
Donna created this shooting schedule and all of the group gave Donna the information as to when they had free time to film and so with that information Donna made this shooting schedule. A shooting schedule is when you plan your time out so that you know when you can film and if you have enough time to film.

shooting schedule

This is the shooting schedule that I put together. This has a bit more details of what we done when preparing for the final opening sequence.
I put together my own one so I could show you how I Had an input to the film of 'SEZIED'.

Questionnaire Pie Chart

This graph gave my group a good insite to what our thriller should have in it and how we can make it good and exciting for the audience to watch.

How we are going to use this to help us? This will help us because we have a chosen our taget audience to be over 30 years of age. From my graph I have shown that the more people that wanted to answer my questionnaire where 40 and older. So we wanted our target group to be 30+ so we can make the film more complexed and harder to understand so it mad the audiences think more so this made them want to watch on.

From the questinnire and the pie chart we put together this helped us to plan better and for us to make our thriller different for people to watch that they would enjoy it and that it was a new type of thriller. So we collected all our information and put it into a pie chart, then we analysed the findings that we got and we used the finding to help us plan this perfect thriller opening sequence. The audience that completed our questionnaire gave us some good idears on what to add in our film.

So I hope from our hard work and the use of our targets audience opinons we will have a thriller that will tick all the boxes for them and get us a B or even an A?

Thriller Synopsis

New: The whole opening sequence is the killer preparing to kill Jessica (Donna)So we see him in all close up shots of him cutting picutures of her out, planning to get her from her house, knifes he is going to use and the other bit of equipment needed to capture and kill a young girl. This have been changed so the audience will be more intrested in our film and that it really looks like an opening sequence.

Old:We firstly see the killer planning what is going to happen to the next victim, we will see many shots of the pictures of the killer’s victim as well as newspaper cut-outs and what kinds of weaponry that the killer is going to decide to use on his victim all in alignment with each other. After the killer has been seen planning the next victim’s fate we also see past memories of the killer’s previous victims, but we only see some shots of what happened to these people. Lastly we will see the latest victim, Jessica, she is walking through the park at night and the killer has decided to follow her. The killer then accidently makes his or her presence known to the victim who becomes scared at the fact that someone is following her. At this point Jessica has leaded herself right into the forest where it appears that no one can hear her. The killer then comes out of no-where and we hear Jessica’s scream which leads into a blackout.
